Progress

Hello everyone! These past couple of weeks have been so busy, I haven't had much time to post anything! I'm trying to get internet connection at my apartment, but there seems to be one obstacle after another. Hopefully soon it will work out, which will make it much easier for me to post more often!

Last weekend I had some guests stay with me. My mom and her friend Tonya came and stayed at my place for a couple of nights. The first day I didn't see much of them because I was at school and they were at a workshop, but on Saturday we went to downtown Mesa and had lunch at a Mexican restaurant called Mangos (so delicious!) and went to my mom's alltime favorite store Mystic Paper, which is a cute little craft supply store on Main Street. After that we went to Old Town in Scottsdale to check out some of the galleries and had some icecream. I need to go back again soon because we didn't have enough time to see everything. I really enjoyed looking in a jewelry store called French Designer Jewelry that had some amazing work!

On Sunday I went to Tucson and spent the afternoon with my family, and the evening with my wonderful boyfriend Jorge. My best friend Golriz was in town from California, so I was able to see her as well! It was really nice to see her. Then on Monday another friend from California , Drew, was here in Phoenix, and I was able to have dinner with him and some of his friends. It was a very busy weekend!

I wanted to share the slow progress I've been making at school. Below are some images of some of the things I've been working on:

Ring with ancient Roman coin

I found the coin at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show. I'm not sure if it's really authentic, but either way I thought it looked really cool!

Pieces for a necklace I'm working on.

Detail of a box I made for my Sculpture Safety class. I realized after putting it together that I made a lot of mistakes in constructing it! But, it's my first time working with wood, so if I ever do it again, I know what to fix. The stones haven't been set yet in the silver tubing.

My welding sample. It's not pretty, but it's held together well. My instructor gave it a drop test to see if it would break, and it passed!

Plasma cut steel starfish. I have no idea what I'm going to use them for yet.

It's not terribly exciting, but I also made a little shelf for my work bench to put my lamp on to make a little more space.

My messy desk

Now I need to finish some of my jewelry work!

Canal behind my apartments. I walk by it on the way to the lightrail.

This week we had the Craftsmenship exhibition opening. I stayed to guard the gallery for most of the day, and then stayed to help out at the opening in the evening. I even had to announce the award winners during the opening! It was a great turnout, and I was able to see my former metals instructor Charity Hall who came up from Tucson for the show!

Have a great weekend!
