Knoxville Museum of Art

My work is being sold in the Knoxville Museum of Art Gift Shop! They are now carrying some of my enamel pendants and earrings. The museum also is currently showing Alchemy, the traveling exhibition by the Enamelist Society.

I also wanted to show a commission piece I did recently, which was inspired by the brooches I had recently made. It's made with copper, nickel and silver, and has a magnifying camera lens with layers of pierced metal, enamel and garnets on the inside.

Happy New Year to everyone!

Enameling Classes

I'm thrilled to announce that I will be teaching an enameling class and a torch fire enamling workshop starting in January!

The workshop I'll be teaching is at Harold Studio, which is a wonderful studio in Phoenix! I'll be covering basic sifting, sgrafitto, and stenciling with multiple colors, all with using only a torch to fire the enamel! To sign up or to get additional information, click here.

Beginning in January I will also be teaching an enameling class which will include metal preparation, cleaning enamels, sifting, sgraffito, stoning, wet packing, uses of silver/gold foil, combining transparent and opaque enamels, and more! This class will be at Phoenix Center for the Arts. Additional information can be found here under metals and jewelry. Spread the word!

New sculptural piece

Here's a new piece that I finished a few weeks ago, and have finally had the chance to photograph. The enamel pieces are rings that are detachable from the main piece. The camera lens gives a warped view of enamelwork and pierced metal layering on the inside (which I couldn't get a good image of).

15 Hour Review

I passed my 15 Hour Review!!!

Midway through grad school, every grad student in the art college has to present their work to a comittee, and they decide whether or not your work shows potential and you can move on in the program. It's been a very stressful couple of months, but all the work was worth it because I passed my 15 Hour Review! I'm so happy and relieved! Now I can relax for a couple of days, then back to work to start working toward my thesis show! It's all very exciting!

Here are images of some of the work I presented today in my review:

New piece and Jewelry Sale

My latest piece is titled Looking Lenses. It is currently showing in the 6th Annual Intercollegiate Metals Exhibition at Step Gallery at ASU. They are all brooches that each sit in a petri dish for display. They are all made of copper, silver, brass, enamel, camera lenses and various stones, including peridot, citrine, amethyst, topaz and garnets. The lenses are magnified, showing an intensity of color from the enamel and stones on the inside.

I also wanted to announce that the Metals Club at ASU will be having a jewerly sale next week, October 18! It will be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in front of the Art Building. The Art Building is located adjacent to Neeb Plaza on the ASU Tempe Campus. We will have unique jewelry made by ASU students! Hurry so you can get first pick!

Workshop at Arrowmont

I have been taking forever on getting to this, but here is part one of my stay at Arrowmont for the Enamelist Society Conference:

While I was at Arrowmont a few weeks ago I took a workshop with Ricky Frank on "Light and Color in Cloisonne." Ricky Frank is a really great artist, and he taught me so much in the 2 1/2 day workshop. We focused on clarity and blending of colors in enamel. I was really pleased with how my sample turned out. I was able to blend colors like never before, and the enamel was crystal clear!

Ricky giving us a demo:

Here is a progression of my samples I worked on during the workshop:

The Arrowmont campus was beautiful! Here are some images I took of the campus:

The dining hall

I saw a black bear behind this building! They were all over!
